This vintage original poster was created by the African American artist Jacob Lawrence for the 1972 Munich Olympics.  Lawrence is among the best known and most influential African American artists of the 20th century and his painterly style, which he described as “Dynamic Cubism”, is evident here in this work.  This poster features a group of runners racing toward the finish line over the German language title Olympische Spiele München 1972.   The lower left corner is printed “Edition Olympia 1972 GmbH 1972” and “Printed in Germany” and Jacob Lawrence’s name is signed in print in the lower righthand corner of the image area.  

This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and shows light to moderate handling wear including edges slightly bumped in spots and very slight creasing and slight rubbing in spots at the bottom of the poster.  The colors remain vibrant and overall condition is very good.
