This vintage original poster was issued in 1935 to help the United States Treasury promote “Series A” United States Savings Bonds. The Series A United States Savings Bonds were the first savings bonds issued by the United States government following legislation signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 1, 1935.
This new type of treasury security was introduced during the darkest days of The Great Depression to encourage saving among the American population. These new savings bonds could not be traded or sold on secondary markets and could only be redeemed by the original purchaser, recipients who received the bonds as gifts or heirs in the event the original purchaser or recipient died. This poster features a more modern rendering of a Columbia type figure holding a strongbox in one hand and $25 Series A United States Saving Bond in the other hand and behind her a billowing American flag, the Washington Monument and the dome of the United States Capitol Building can be seen.
This vintage original poster shows moderate handling wear including edges slightly creased and bumped in places and short diagonal tear of about an inch without paper loss on the right side of the top edge. The poster has two short tears of less than a half inch on the left edge and another tear of less than a half inch on the bottom edge, all without paper loss. The colors remain strong, the poster displays nicely and overall condition is very good.
