This elaborate pictorial map depicting events of WWII was created by English born Canadian cartographer Stanley Turner. Turner created several of these maps for the Globe and Mail newspaper in Toronto and then licensed the maps to the C.C. Peterson advertising agency for distribution in the United States where they were often overprinted and distributed as advertising novelties.
This map doesn’t cite the edition as seen on later maps but the lower margin is printed with 1942 copyright by C.C. Peterson Advertising of Toronto. This map denotes several war events with the latest we find being the Japanese defeat at the Battle of Coral Sea on May 5-7, 1942. The cartouche area of the map is printed:
Dated Events World War Map Showing All War Areas In Relation To The Americas – Published Expressly for “Your Independent Hardware Store” – There’s One Near You
This map is incredibly detailed with dozens of war events and battles indicated all the way to May 1942. This vintage original map is folded as issued and shows some toning from age and moderate handling wear including a small bit of separation at the intersection of the center fold lines. This map is free of tape or pinholes and the colors remain strong. Overall condition is very good. Please see our other listings for another editions of Stanley Turner’s Dated Events World War Map.
