This vintage original WWII poster was created by Belgian-American artist Georges Schreiber and issued to support the Fifth War Loan Drive that ran in June and July, 1944. This poster commemorates the USS Dorado which was an US Navy submarine lost off the coast of Panama along with her crew of 77 on or about 12 October 1943. The submarine was thought to have possibly been the victim of friendly fire from American aircraft conducting anti-submarine activities in the area but was later determined to have more likely struck a mine laid by a German U-boat.
This is the full “one sheet” size of this poster. This poster was folded just slightly off center and shows modest toning from age and light handling wear. The colors are bold and overall condition is very good. This poster ships folded.
