This impressive poster featuring the massive SS Leviathan ocean liner was created for the United States Lines shipping company by the artist R.S. Pike in the 1920s. A few different variations of this poster exist giving a waterline perspective of the SS Leviathan to emphasize the ship’s massive size. The poster touts the vessel as the “World’s Largest Ship” which it was when launched in 1913 but the claim is a slight exaggeration as the SS Leviathan was surpassed in size by the SS Bismarck and the RMS Olympic, both of which launched in 1914.
This poster has been professionally backed to linen with some expert restoration and repair as needed. The poster had tear of a couple inches near the upper lefthand corner and a couple other short tears and slight abrasions all of which have been skillfully addressed. A small half inch notch off the lower edge has been replaced and there are a couple small spots with touch up paint applied and blended. The poster displays beautifully with rich color and dramatic effect. Contact us for more information as needed.
