This rare poster was issued by the United States Army in 1941 to help bolster recruiting for the Coast Artillery Corps shortly before the United States entered WWII. The U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps (CAC) was responsible for the coastal, harbor, and anti-aircraft defense of the United States and its possessions between 1901 and 1950. The outbreak of war in Europe in 1939 and the fall of France in 1940 greatly accelerated American defense planning including an expansion of the Coast Artillery Corps for which this poster was issued. The lower margin indicates a publication date on 8-8-41.
This vintage original poster has been professionally backed to linen with some touchup as needed including expert repair to a closed tear near the top center and some wear on the edges. The lower margin area shows some dust staining and has an ink handstamp for the Second Recruiting District Headquarters in Manchester, New Hampshire. The colors remain vibrant and overall condition is very good.
