This is a lot of material related to the WWII era Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Ohio Chest X-Ray Survey 1943-1944. This project was a wartime public health initiative which revolutionized tuberculosis (TB) control by shifting the focus from treating late-stage disease to early detection and case finding. Millions of recruits, civilians, and industrial workers were screened, changing public health forever.
This lot includes the following items:
An instructional manual of eight pages plus the covers titled Procedure For Taking Check X-Rays In Industry – Developed From Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Ohio Chest X-Ray Survey 1943-1944.
Two 8” x 10” black and white photos with one showing a chest x-ray in process and another showing a group of employees lining up to enter a mobile chest x-ray unit that looks like a streamlined trailer.
A 12-page pamphlet issued by the Anti-Tuberculosis League of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County titled Half a million people – A Serious Pamphlet for Community Leaders. This pamphlet focuses on the causes of tuberculosis and the importance of early detection which was best accomplished with chest x-rays.
