This vintage original poster was created by the artist Victor Clyde Forsythe and issued to support the 1919 Victory Liberty Loan drive. The Victory Liberty Loan was the fifth and final of the Liberty Loan bond drives that financed American involvement in the First World War. For this poster Forsythe renders an image of an American Army doughboy with bloody bandages on his head and arm smiling jauntily and carrying three German battle trophy helmets against a backdrop of war-torn no-man’s-land hellscape with the tag line And They Thought We Couldn’t Fight.
This is the largest 41.5" x 30.5" size for this poster which was also issued in a smaller 20" x 30" format. This vintage original poster has been professionally conversation mounted to a linen backing with some minor touchup as needed including expert repair to pinholes on the corners and a few small nicks and small abrasions on the margins. The poster retains the original colors and displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
