This vintage original and rare interwar period poster was issued by the United States Navy for recruiting purposes in 1934. This poster features a few seagulls gliding gracefully over a gentle sea as a convoy of Navy ships pass in the distance and highlights opportunities for world travel and learning valuable trades and work skills garnered through enlistment in the U.S. Navy. Text on the poster reads ROLLIN’ HOME Old Ports New Ports And The Home Port – Travel far, learn much and experience the thrill of your return With The U.S. Navy.

The document code printed in the lower margin indicates this poster was issued in 1934 and the artist’s name, J.W. Burbank, appears in the lower righthand corner of the image area. Far fewer U.S. Navy recruiting posters were issued during the interwar period making them much harder to find than posters issued during WWI and WWII. Posters from the interwar period tended to emphasis travel, the opportunity to learn job skills and other peacetime messages such as this example here.

This is a rare poster as we trace none at auction and a Worldcat search locates no copies.

This vintage original poster shows light handling wear including edges lightly bumped and slightly creased in spots and has a small bit of what looks like dried adhesive at the center and right side on the bottom edge. The poster has no tape or pinholes and doesn’t appear to have ever been hung up or used. This rare vintage original U.S. Navy recruiting poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
