This vintage original Italian travel poster advertising the city of Genova was created by Guido Zamperoni and issued by ENIT, the official Italian tourism authority, shortly after the end of WWII. For this poster, Zamperoni renders an image of a statue of Christopher Columbus, one of Genova’s most famous sons, raising his left hand and pointing to the New World. Guido Zamperoni had a long career working primarily as an illustrator of comic books in the French market but also produced at least a couple travel posters shortly after the end of WWII of which this one is a rare example.
The left margin towards the bottom is printed “A.G.I.S. GENOVA”. The lower margin is printed “Esente da Bollo”, “Disciplina Affissioni: D.L. 8-11-47 n.1417” and “Printed in Italy by ENIT”.
This poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows only light handling wear including edges lightly bumped in places. The poster has a short tear of about a half inch and a small puncture both of which are in the margin on the left side near the upper corner and do not affect the image area. The colors retain their original vibrancy and overall condition is very good for this rare vintage original.
