This huge Cold War era Soviet Union poster was designed by Stanislav Mikhailovich Zabaluev (Забалуев, Станислав Михайлович) with a title that translates into English as “The Nation And The Party Are United”. This colorful poster celebrates the diverse population of the Soviet Union which at its peak covered about 1/6 of the earth’s land mass. The image superimposes a Godlike Vladimir Lenin hoovering above a mélange of Soviet peoples representing different occupations, ages and ethnic groups. This powerful poster was issued only weeks before the Soviet Union shocked the world by launching Sputnik.
