This vintage original pre-war Italian travel poster advertising Napoli as a travel destination was issued by ENIT, the official Italian tourism authority. This same poster design featuring an image of the Castel Nuovo, a Napoli landmark dating back to 1272, with Mount Vesuvius emitting its fumarolic plume in the background was used for other Italian travel posters dating to at least the late 1940s. This example here is the earlier pre-WWII edition issued in the early to mid 1930s with the lower left margin indicating the printer as “RICHTER & C. – NAPOLI”. The lower margin indicates “Printed in Italy by ENIT”.
This poster has been professionally backed to linen with some minor touchup as needed including repair to a pinhole on each of the upper corners and a few short tears in the margins. A small bit of loss to the margin in the lower right corner not affecting text or encroaching into the image area was been expertly replaced during the linen backing process. The poster shows a bit of light foxing in places but the colors remain robust and overall condition is very good for this vintage original. Interested buyers are welcome to contact us for a photo of the poster prior to linen backing.
