This vintage original poster was created by the artist Walter Richards and issued by the Office of War Information as OWI Poster No. 21 in 1942. This poster reminds American motorists on the homefront to check their tires to encourage conservation of rubber since properly inflated tires lasted longer and rubber was an essential wartime material in great demand by the military. For this poster Richards renders a whimsical image of American soldiers, presumably in North Africa, speeding through a desert as their Army Jeep goes airborne over a sand dune bracketed by text that reads:
They’ve got more important places to go than you!...Save Rubber Check Your Tires Now
This vintage original WWII poster looks pretty well unused with no tape or pinholes and only slight handling wear and modest toning from age. This poster is folded as issued and in excellent condition overall.
