This vintage original Mexico travel poster was created by Spanish born artist José Espert Arcos and issued by the Mexican Tourist Association around 1945. For this poster Espert renders a whimsical image of an anthropomorphized Saguaro cactus wearing a sombrero and holding a guitar on one arm and a serape or Mexican blanket on the other arm. The lower margin denotes the printer as Offset Galas and indicates this poster was printed in Mexico.
Espert as he was known, served in the Batallón del Talento or Talent Battalion in the Spanish Civil War alongside other artists and intellectuals for the Republican cause. At some point after the conflict in Spain Espert emigrated to Mexico were he worked as an artist and graphic designer producing numerous travel posters for the Mexican government as well as movie posters and other commericial artwork.
This vintage original poster has been professionally backed to linen with some expert touchup as needed including repairs to some tears on the edges and small areas of replaced loss on the margins. The colors remain strong and the poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
