This vintage original Italian travel poster advertises Rome and the 1950 Holy Year in the Catholic faith. The Holy Year of 1950 was a year of special devotion and penance in the Roman Catholic Church proclaimed by Pope Pius XII on May 26, 1949. The poster features an image of the Vatican Obelisk and Saint Peter’s Basilica on Saint Peter’s Square in Vatican City, Rome over title text that reads HOLY YEAR 1950 ROME. Also featured is the quote “May this genuinely Holy Year be for the human family the harbinger of a new era of peace, prosperity and progress”. The lower margin indicates this poster was printed in Italy by the Arnoldo Mondadori firm of Verona.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some minor touch up as needed including expert repair to two short tears without paper loss on the top edge including one that extended a couple inches into the image area. A couple light creases in the image area have also been mitigated. The poster displays beautifully and overall condition is very good.
