This is an original antique broadside issued for the 1908 Semi-Centennial Celebration of the Lincoln Douglas Debate at Ottawa, Illinois. Ottawa was the site of the first of seven Lincoln Douglas Debates held on August 21, 1858. Six more Lincoln Douglas Debates would follow with the final debate taking place in Alton, Illinois on October 15 of 1858. This broadside is printed in a patriotic red, white and blue and proclaims Stephen A. Douglas, Son of the “Little Giant” will preside and Jules Lombard “Lincoln’s World-Famous Campaign Singer” will sing. The lower margin indicates this broadside was printed by the Free Trader Press of Ottawa, Illinois.

This broadside is printed one side only and was issued folded. The broadside has a couple small holes that look like insect damage in the word “August” and is otherwise in very good clean condition overall with just light handling wear and modest toning from age. A Worldcat search locates only one copy at the Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois and we trace none at auction.
