This vintage original WWII poster was created by Nebraska born artist John Falter and issued by the U.S. Navy in 1943 to help recruit women to serve in the WAVES. The WAVES were the women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve with the name an acronym for Women Accepted For Volunteer Emergency Service.
For this poster Falter renders an image of a woman in a WAVES unform against a backdrop of a navy ship at sea with aerial combat in the skies above framed by text that reads There’s A Man-Size Job For You In Your NAVY and Enlist In The WAVES. The date 4-6-43 is printed in the lower margin and the artist’s name, John Falter USNR, is signed in print in the lower lefthand corner of the image area.
This vintage original poster was never hung or used and has no tape or pinholes. The poster shows light handling wear including a light bumping on the edges in spots and a bit of creasing to the tip of the lower righthand corner not affecting the image area. The colors retain their original richness and overall condition is very good.
